Coastal TV Room & Home Decor DIY

homeWelcome to my Coastal Decor Room; join me on an all access tour of the room, how I decorated it, where I purchased many of the items I used to make my coastal sea scape splendor, how and what I made in the room myself and also a few helpful tips on some of the mishaps I had along the way. I will show you all how I fixed a destroyed hutch that came to me from Wayfair (they have an amazing return policy) and I made it into a great bar area. I can’t throw anything away even if I am told to… LOL I am the repurpose queen; it just seems wrong to throw something away if there is a chance to breathe life back into it and I think I did just that. If you check out my video, you will be able to judge for yourself if I was able to revive the bashed up hutch into a fun bar unit for our TV room. I also found a new product that helped me clean a paint mishap I had. There is a lot of great information, ideas and creations packed into this one little video, please check it out 🙂

500 Subbies Ask Me Anything!

Snapshot_11I had a Giveaway on my YouTube channel for my subscribers to thank them for supporting me and to celebrate reaching over 500 subscribers. I gave away a wonderful tote filled with all sorts of beauty and fashion items; if you would like to see go and check out the video, I will leave a link shortly. To be a part of the Giveaway I asked my subscribers, you did have to be a subscriber to take part, I asked my subscribers to ask me any question they would like to know about me. Since I am a newish channel I thought this would be a fun way to get to know each other better. It is my goal with Embellish Life to create a community of individuals that can learn and grow together and feel comfortable together. I feel that the only way you can do that is if you put yourself out there and are willing to let yourself be known. Show everyone what you are all about, I think false assumptions are the biggest mistakes people can make and can also get people into the most trouble… You know what they say about “Assume” ing anything… LOL Anyway, even though the giveaway is all over my video on all the answers to all the great questions that my subscribers asked me is all completed. It is a great insight into who I am, what I am doing with Embellish Life, a little bit about my family and how I got to where I am today; if you are interested.

All American Wreath

uvs150625-001
The All American Wreath can be used from Memorial Day all the way through the 4th of July. I love making wreaths for all seasons, holidays and decor. One of my first Home Based Businesses was a custom baby announcement wreath, I called it Bright Beginnings which morphed into custom designed baby hooded bath towels and eventually did full circle into a personal shopping business for busy moms, right back to my roots of fashion and retail…

Some of my supplies for this project I purchased online at Save on Crafts:
Wreath
Wood flowers
(option: silk, dried or none)

The remaining items I got locally at Hobby Lobby:
4th of July decorations
Wire Ribbon

The basic assembly of the wreath is as follows:
1. Place decoration and flowers on the wreath the way you want to glue them. Remember to leave a space for the bow at the top, side or bottom (depending on where you want to place it)
2. Make your bow
3. Glue all items on with hot glue.

American Beauty American Beauty
This weeks cocktail is appropriately named American Beauty made with American Gin distilled in Philadelphia fit the bill for a 4th of July cocktail. The American Beauty is refreshing blend of Bluecoat gin, fresh lemon juice, raspberries and mint. I made a few tweaks by substituting the simple syrup and soda water with diet ginger ale (of course, my personal favorite). This would be a more calorie friendly version!

Ingredients

2 oz Bluecoat gin
1 oz fresh-lemon juice
¾ oz simple syrup*
3 fresh raspberry and 3 fresh blueberries
4–6 mint leaves
Instructions

Add lemon juice, mint and berries into mixing glass and lightly muddle. Add the remaining ingredients into mixing glass along with ice and shake vigorously. Fine-strain over the rocks into a double old-fashioned glass and top with a splash of soda (my version has the diet ginger-ale). Garnish with lemon wheel and one raspberry.

*To make simple syrup, combine one part hot water to one part sugar. Stir until all sugar is dissolved and allow to cool.

Vintage-Chic Coat Hanger

Coat Hanger

This weeks video is a DIY home decor craft; a Vintage Chic Coat Hanger. It is a really easy craft if you can use paint and a drill. Most of my supplies were purchased from Hobby Lobby. The plaque I used was found in the wood working section and they are pre-cut and sanded for you. You can pick the colors of spray paint you use coordinating with the room you plan to hang it on. There is no right or wrong way to distress/vintage the wood plaque. For more details on how to make the Vintage Chic Coat Hanger check out my YouTube video which has all the details.

Here is the recipe on this weeks cocktail, it is a personal creation and so easy to make:

Old Fashion Hard Lemonade

2oz of Vodka
1.5 cups Lemonade
1 cup soda water or diet Ginger ale

Combine all ingredients and stir lightly. Pour over ice and garnish with lemon wedges or slices. That’s it, so easy and great on a hot day.

Outdoor Pillow Project

Here is another cost saving décor project; outdoor pillows.  You do need to know how to use a sewing machine and cut a square but besides that it really isn’t too hard.  If you have ever priced décor pillows and cushions you know how much they cost, it is crazy, and when you consider that they are sitting outside for an entire season it is even crazier.  I live on the West Coast in California and our outdoor season is most of the year so our outside items get even more weather worn so spending a lot of money doesn’t always guarantee that they are going to last any longer then less expensive versions.  In fact, it has been my experience that they fade and rot just as fast for the most part.  So, in revolt of the ridiculously expensive cushions I came up with a solution to get fashion forward looks for next to nothing; so you don’t feel sick when your outside pillows get pooped on by a bird, ripped up by a raccoon or faded from the sun.

I didn’t even have to go to the fabric store because albeit cheaper than ready-made, outdoor fabric is not cheap either.  I went to a home store, Home Goods, to be exact and picked up the large 90” rectangle table- cloth in the color scheme and design I was looking for.  I actually had better luck finding what I was looking for using a table-cloth then the 4 fabric stores that I visited first!  With the one table-cloth I was able to make 4 small pillows and a runner for the top of our outdoor bar.  My total cost was about $20 for everything.  I did do some recycling and re-using of old pillow stuffing but even if you had to buy all new stuffing I think you could do it for close to the same price.

Supply list:

  • 1 90″ rectangle table cloth
  • old pillows, inserts, or pillow stuffing
  • sewing machine
