Fashion in My Life

scrn4

If you want to know more about my fashion experience check out my YouTube site. I have just finished a new video about why I’m making videos and where I have learned all I know about fashion and style. You can see the video, Embellish Life-All About Style and find out all you ever wanted to know about me and my fashion experience. A few jobs I didn’t mention in my video, totally forgot and I didn’t want it to go on forever… I didn’t mention working as a Manager and Buyer at a designer leather boutique in La Jolla, CA called Extravaganza and I was a stylist, fashion merchandiser at JigSaw a contemporary clothing boutique also in La Jolla, CA. I actually worked at JigSaw twice once just before I moved to Beverly Hills, CA and after I came home due to my car accident. Tip: Try never to burn bridges… You never know when you might need something from someone again. Even if it is not a job, I believe that life is spiral; hopefully in a upward movement, and always spinning and circling back around. Keep as many doors open and windows cracked, you never know when you might want to go back through to get to the other side. 🙂

heart attack update

I experienced a random heart attack about a month ago. I have created a video about my status and how I am feeling currently. I have also listed some of my medications and how it makes me feel. I am in no way giving out medical advice but more describing what my experience is after a heart attack. To find out more about what happened to me, how I’m doing and what exercising after my heart attack has been, check out my video; Heart Attack at 50 Update.

4th of July Party

4thjulyparty
This was a great party! We had about 20 guests. The party was partially catered by a local BBQ restaurant which allowed for everyone to enjoy the day and no one person spent the day cooking and prepping over a hot grill. I also had guest that asked if they could help (this happens all the time and people like to chip in if they can). I don’t normally request help but depending on the party and occasion, I do let people bring dishes. Since this was a 4th of July celebration I let people choose their favorite “All American” side, dessert to bring. Depending on your guest list and volunteers you may want to ask what they are bringing so that you don’t have too much of one side or platter. You know your guest best and what will work for your party. Having people help you will definitely take the stress off of you to prepare all the food yourself. If you are a foodie and enjoy the food prep than there is nothing wrong with thanking your guest for the offer and letting them know you have it all taken care of. Suggest just bringing a bottle of wine or soda… If they will not take “no” for an answer.

Later in the evening we all walked to the bridge to watch fireworks and we even had a few of our own (yes, they are legal here 😉 ) If you would like to see more of the set-up and decorations please check out my Embellish Life YouTube Channel and watch the video!

Watermelon MojitoHere is the recipe for the Watermelon Mojito:

It’s summer, try one, and I guarantee you’ll still be drinking them after Independence Day is over.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups watermelon (cubes about 6 cubes)
5 mint leaves
1/2 oz lime juice
1.5-2 oz rum
1/2-3/4 oz simple syrup (I swap out the simple syrup and club soda for diet ginger ale)
Club soda

Instructions
Cut the watermelon into cubes and measure out 1 1/2 cups (to save time buy the pre-cut watermelon that you can find at most grocery stores in the produce section). Combine the watermelon, lime juice, mint leaves, and simple syrup (I leave this out) in a cocktail shaker. Thoroughly muddle the mixture until the watermelon is mostly liquid. (Here is where I change it up… I use a hand blender and if I am making a big batch for a party I put it into the blender. Once it is all smooth I put it through a strainer to collect most of the pulp. Now continue on) Add the rum and some ice cubes. Shake. Next, fill a glass most of the way up with crushed ice. Strain the watermelon mixture into the glass. Top with club soda (this is where I use the diet ginger ale)

Heart Attack @ 50! Why me?

heart attack
I am 50 years old and in good physical health as far as my heart is concerned. At 50 while I was getting my hair cut, enjoying my relaxing day I started to have a heart attack… Like so many have now warned, it wasn’t like your classic male heart attack symptoms, it wasn’t even like the now publicized female symptoms… For me it was a combination of both male and female with my own twist.

I am not a medical professional or do I have a medical background; this is just my story and what happened to me. I am posting this to help other people that might have a similar situation in their lifetime and if my story can make someone stop and think, if I could help another person or even save a life, then telling my story is worth it.

The reason that I listened to my symptoms and sought medical help was because I had seen the Barbara Walters ABC Special: ‘A Matter of Life and Death’. She also spoke about it in her show The View and those two platforms gave me enough information to know when it started to happen to me something was not right and I needed to get help immediately!

To get the information on my heart attack at 50 check out my Heart Attach @ 50 video on YouTube.

Here is also a link to another information site and one that I like to use when I want medical answer.

Signs of a Heart Attack for Women @ WebMD.

Here is another good link from The American Heart Association:
‘Signs of a Heart Attack in Women’

I hope my story helps others, especially women, as heart disease is the #1 killer of women! Just because you are young, healthy, do all the right things, and live a healthy lifestyle doesn’t me an you are exempt for Heart Disease or a Heart Attack… Listen to your body, don’t feel silly, if you think it feels wrong check it out… Better wrong than dead!
