My New Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

I was contacted by Irresistible Me Hair Extensions and asked if I would be interested in trying their real hair extensions. Since I was looking for new ones to match my lighter hair color I was happy to test them out and was happily surprised at how nice they were and how much hair I received. Please check out the video I have done on the Irresistible Me Extensions. I cover how to put them on, different hairstyles you can do with them, and even how to color them.
I have been a fan of real hair extensions for quite a long time; at least 10 years. Here are some of the reasons I like real hair over synthetic hair extensions:
• More versatile
• Make color adjustments – Permanent color & Simi-permanent
• Use heat to style – Flat Iron, curlers, curling iron
• Easy care – Treat like normal hair
• Makes hair thicker
• Makes hair longer
• More hairstyles possible
• Easy to wear and use

I also found these FAQ on their website and I thought they might be helpful and answer a few questions people might have about their hair extensions. These are the questions I thought important and if you go to their site you can find more information if you want it.

How often should I wash my Irresistible Me Hair Extensions? Our extensions should be washed every 10-20 wears or when there is too much built up of products and they become unmanageable to style.

What kind of shampoo and/or conditioner can I use? Moisturizing shampoos and balsam conditioners are recommended. Try our Liquid Gold hair products line – is the best shampoo and conditioner duo for any type of hair, 100% human Remy hair extensions and full lace wigs.

Can I color my extensions? You can color human hair extensions. However, our hair extensions have been treated and chemically processed. If you must color our Irresistible Me hair extensions, we recommend purchasing a slightly lighter color than what you are looking for and use a semi-permanent color to darken the hair color. It is less harsh on the hair when you are depositing the color than lifting the color.

Can I swim with hair extensions? Yes. We do recommend that you wear a swimming cap. Chlorine and salt water can dry out the hair. After swimming, we recommend washing the hair thoroughly with moisturizing shampoo and balsam conditioner.

Can I use a curling iron and/or blow dryer on my extensions? Our hair extensions can be styled just like your own hair with heating tools. Though, like any human hair, too much heat can dry out the hair.

You can see the entire video that I did with all of the details on the review and how to use the Irresistible Me Extensions and others. Just follow this link: Irresistible Me Extensions/Review & How to

One of my favorite Comfort Foods-Potato and Ham Soup

I love making soup and stews in the winter; who am I kidding, I love soup no matter what the season. This Potato & Ham Soup recipe is one of our favorites. I found it in a Country Living Magazine about 25 years ago, I’m not kidding, and I have adapted it to my own, based on our family’s tastes. I have listed my recipe below and if you want the video on my Embellish Life YouTube channel you will get extra tips and step by step instructions. Here is the link to that video: Cooking w/ Heidi – Potato & Ham Soup Remember to get the recipe here first since I don’t have space to post it on the video description.

If you change my soup to your taste by adding, subtracting or doing something different; please let me know. I would love to find other ways to make the soup. You can post your changes here on the blog or you can let all of us know on the video comments. I think that is what makes cooking so much fun, sharing your creations and ideas. Personally, I don’t think there is really a right or wrong way to cook for your family, especially when you are doing it with love. I know there are always the “proper” ways to make and create, but that is a different kind of cooking in my book. It is fun to watch but not always so practical to do when you are cooking for a family. Not to say a chef in a restaurant isn’t cooking for a crowd, LOL, but I will never claim to be a pro… I’m lucky if I can make it through a meal without hurting anything or anyone.

Potato & Ham Soup
2 quarts. of water salted (salt optional)
6 medium potatoes peeled and cubed
2 medium carrots peeled and chopped or 1 cup of baby carrots chopped

Help Me Pick a New Hairstyle!

Spring is time for cleaning out the fall/winter mess and for me fall is the time to update and change my look. Maybe it is the “back to school” vibe, fixing the damage from the sun and water, switching up my super casual look, or not needing to worry about the heat and humidity as much that makes fall the time I start yearning for a change. There are times when I know exactly what I want and other times that I am lost in the multitude of choices. As fall is shortly upon us I am caught up in the later and am not exactly sure what I want to do besides make a change.

This year change seems to be the theme of my family’s life. My husband is changing his job, my mother is moving in with us so that we can care for her later in life, we are selling our home and moving to another state. All of these huge changes have inspired me to make an additional change and switch up my color and style of my hair. I found a really great website, with the help of my mom, and I have listed it below so you can check it out as well. I have taken some of the photos from this site to help me make a choice of color and style. I thought it might be fun if you all helped me pick. I have created a YouTube video if you would like to see the choices; just click here: Help Me Pick a New Hairstyle

This is my hair now:

Here are the colors I’m looking at; to help me blend my grey:

Here are the styles I’m looking at; for something with a little more flair:

You can help me pick my new style by leaving your comment below; that would be so helpful. I have also listed the website and page that I found all my styles and color ideas. If you are looking I really found this website super helpful. Let me know if you need any help picking out your fall cut and/or color. I would be happy to return the favor and help you decide too!

Dry Brushing Review with Minamul

I was asked to review the MA Minamul Dry Brush Kit. I purchased the kit at a 30% discount. I was in the process of doing the Whole 30 Challenge and started Clean Eating about a year ago and figured that the Dry Brushing Detox could be an interesting addition to my healthy, chemical free lifestyle. I have done videos and written posts on my Blog about all of these lifestyle changes I have made. Here are the links to those videos:

Vacation Detox

I did some research independently and found that a doctor that I respected and used, Dr. Axe, for my IBS and other stomach/intestinal issues. He wrote a whole article on Dry Brushing and the positive attributes. Here are some of the excerpts from the article I thought would be useful. They are taken directly from his piece on Dry Brushing:

5 Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing

  1. Exfoliates Dead Skin

When in your teens and 20s, dry brushing isn’t necessary because the skin automatically renews itself. However, as you get older, it is helpful to exfoliate once or twice a week to help renew the skin and remove those dead skin cells so that you have a fresher appearance and healthier skin.

It’s important to do this gently so that you do not tear the skin. You don’t want to break down the skin’s protective layer or cause irritation to sensitive skin, which could get infected. Exfoliating too much can also dehydrate the skin, which is that last thing you want to do. (3)

  1. Stimulates the Lymphatic System

Because your skin helps to detoxify the body, it’s important to keep it healthy so that it can do its job. However, if your skin has too many toxins or dead skin cells, it may not be able to eliminate waste from your body as efficiently as needed.

Dry brushing your skin can help your lymphatic system, which has the job of removing toxins from the body and ultimately helps prevent you from getting sick. When inflammation builds up in the body, it can cause the body to struggle to fight off that inflammation. If the skin is healthy, it can help release those toxins so that the body is not having to work so hard to rid itself of them.

  1. Reduces Cellulite

Everyone hates cellulite, and it seems to be so hard to lose. Cellulite is the appearance of cottage cheese skin predominantly seen on the legs, butt, stomach, and back of the arms. It’s often caused by fluid retention, lack of circulation, weak collagen structure and increased body fat in addition to hormonal imbalances, medical conditions, genetics, poor diet, and toxicity.

Cellulite is most common in adolescent and adult women, but men can have it, too. While there are many claims to treatments, dry brushing may help stimulate the cells and break down toxins from beneath the skin, which may act as a natural remedy for cellulite.

  1. Unclogs Pores

Dr. Cynthia Thaik, MD, a Harvard-trained cardiologist and author of Your Vibrant Heart tells us that over time, your pores can get clogged with dead skin cells, pollutants, and cosmetics. This causes the liver and kidneys to work really hard to get rid of impurities. Dry skin brushing unclogs your skin’s pores and helps your skin absorb more nutrients, which promotes healthy skin and allows those toxins to release a bit easier. (4)

  1. Offers Stress Relief

Another benefit of dry brushing is that it’s similar to massage in decreasing stress, which is great for your health by eliminating anxiety. A study reported that whole body massage was effective in reducing anxiety and stabilizing vital signs of patients with acute coronary disorders. Dry brushing is similar to massage in helping you to relax, yet is far cheaper since you can do it yourself.

Much like a hand massage, dry brushing can provide much needed natural stress relief. When you are less stressed, your body heals much faster from any disease-causing inflammation that it may have.

Did you know that 75 to 90 percent of all doctor’s office visits are related to conditions caused by stress? When you are stressed, it causes changes in the hormones that can increase inflammation and trigger various other problems. If you experience stress over a long period of time, it can be dangerous and is capable of increasing the risk for heart disease, diabetes, weight gain or obesity, mental disorders, autoimmune diseases, digestive disorders and even cancer.

Therefore, finding ways to help eliminate stress is crucial. Dry brushing is an easy way that you can do this for yourself!

How to Dry Brush

There are a few steps that are needed to dry brush correctly. With a little practice, you can enjoy this wonderful benefit and your skin will thank you. Not only will you feel better, but your skin will be to regain that youthful appearance.

  1. Purchase a natural bristle brush with a long handle so that you can reach all areas of your body. Avoid the synthetic brushes. (This is where I bought mine set on Amazon. If you contact me at heidigrady5064@gmail.com I can give you a 20% code until I run out of codes) Link to brush: Amazon- Minamul Dry Brush set
  2. Remove any clothing and stand in a bathtub or shower to catch the falling dry skin.
  3. Do not wet the skin. Dry brush your skin while it is dry.
  4. Starting at the bottom your feet, move in long sweeping motion toward your heart. Stroking away from your heart can put extra pressure on the valves within the veins and lymph vessels, causing ruptured vessels and varicose veins.
  5. Brush each area several times and overlapping as you go to ensure that you do not miss a spot. Be careful over the more sensitive areas, such as the breasts. You may want to avoid the nipple area. It may feel more sensitive the first few times, but your skin will become less sensitive with consistent dry brushing.
  6. Once you’ve brushed your entire body, step into the shower and bathe as you normally would.
  7. After you have showered, pat your skin dry and apply a natural oil like rose hip, olive or coconut oil to your entire body. Try this all-over homemade body butter or check out the DIY recipe I have here!

Things to Consider When Dry Brushing

Sensitive Skin: At first, test a small area to makes sure you are not oversensitive to the activity. Then dry brush the entire body once a week. Once you feel comfortable with the process and confirm that you do not have any irritation from it, you can dry brush your entire body a couple of times a week. More than that can cause dehydration. And, by removing the outer layer, you are removing the much-needed protection that your skin provides, so it is best not to dry brush too frequently.

Be Gentle: It is important to be gentle as you dry brush. You do not want to break the skin and cause more inflammation. Also, make sure your brush has soft bristles. It should feel good.

Brush Towards the Heart: Brush towards the heart to so that you avoid putting pressure on the valves within the veins and lymph vessels.
Relax: Part of the importance is to reduce stress. Relax, don’t be in a hurry and enjoy this time for yourself.

Clean Your Brush: Clean your brush with soap and water at least once a week and let it air dry to avoid any mildew accumulation on your brush.

I would highly recommend Dr. Axe if you have stomach issues. He is a Gastrointestinal Doctor but has turned to a food base, more holistic treatment of many GI based illnesses and conditions. Here is his website if you are interested: Dr Axe: Food is Medicine

Vacation Detox/Hawaii Trip

Summer is the time for many of us to go on vacations and when we get back we need to get back to normal. I just returned from having a fantastic time with my family in Hawaii and now that we are back I am paying the price. I have created a 5-step detox to help get me back on track. I have listed the steps below. I also shared some of my family’s photos from Hawaii.

Here are the 5 easy steps to Detox after a busy and fun vacation. This is just what I do and is in no way medical or professionally created. You should always check with a healthcare professional before you start anything new.

  1. Remove added sugar from your diet (the un-natural process kind)
  2. Increase your water consumption.
  3. Dry Brushing (video on Dry Brushing to follow)
  4. Drink Detox teas. (These are the teas I use Roasted Dandelion Spice Detox by Yogi Teas & Triple Leaf Super Slimming tea.)
  5. Pick up your workout routine or add more movement into your daily régime.

If you would like to see the video and the photos of my Hawaiian vacation please visit my Embellish Life YouTube Channel and check out the video here: Vacation Detox/Hawaii Trip

Drake 173 lbs. 36” 40” .90

The setup is not that difficult. The thing that is going to be hard is taking out all sugar since sugar is included in all most all pre-mixed foods. We decided to remove all the items that are not allowed during Whole 30; that way we will not be tempted. I think it will also be good for morale if you only have food that is acceptable, we will not feel as deprived or at least that is what I’m hopping. I have enclosed some photos of our fridge after we removed all the “non-appropriate” foods.

Good Fridge with all Whole 30 approved food

Bad Fridge with all food we can’t eat during Whole 30

Pantry Whole 30 approved

FabFitFun Unboxing and Review

I’m so glad you have joined me today to help me open my very first FabFitFun box; it is the Spring box and I am so excited. Keep in mind this is the very first time I have seen or even done a subscription box. Well, I guess I have done Stitch Fix but that is a bit different, in a way. I’m a total novice at these types of boxes and if you enjoy watching people muddle their way through a new experience, this is the video for you. As mentioned in the video I would look for a referral link if they had one… And they did!!! So, if you follow my link we will both get little something and that will help me keep getting boxes so that I can share them with you all! Here is the link:FabFitFun Subscription box. This is what they offer new members. You deserve a little treat, so here’s $10 off your first FabFitFun box. A surprise box of amazing beauty, fashion, and lifestyle items for just $49.99 (the box is retailed at over $200+)

My first box was worth $374 retail so way over the $200 and I have been happy with everything I received. I also have Rachel and she took some of my stuff. In addition, even if you didn’t want it all, anything in my box would have been a lovely gift. There isn’t too much risk that you will not be able to use all the items in one way or another. Keep in mind the questionnaire that you fill out so they know what you like and would be the happiest about receiving. Another treat is being able to select items that you want to go into your box. You can purchase extra items at a large discount as well. There are so many different ways to get fun items to try! I think this subscription box is a great deal, fun to get the goodies, and a nice way to try some new products that you might not know about.

Check out my video on YouTube to see all the items that I received and for some more insight into FabFitFun subscription boxes. Here is the link to my video: FabFitFun Unboxing & Review.

Girlfriends and Cocktails-Making Time for Yourself

Girlfriends and Cocktails, what could be better and more fun! This video is part 2 of my St. Augustine Road Trip with my girlfriend from San Diego, CA. Veronica and I have been friends for over 10 years, as our children went to high school together. This video has some fun cocktail tips and photos of inside the St. Augustine Distillery. I am going to leave you with the link to Part 1 of my video and the St. Augustine Distillery if you want to know more or are planning a trip to the area (highly recommend the tour).

Girls Trip to St. Augustine, FL (Part 1)
St. Augustine Distillery

I think it is so important to take some time for yourself! As women, many times we are so focused on external matters that we forget or ignore our own needs. It doesn’t matter if it is home life, children, work, extended family or friends, so many times we focus on others and completely miss the calls for help and attention that our body and mind are screaming at us.

What is the answer to attending to others as well as looking after yourself? First take time to think, breath and listen to your inner-self. You can do that through prayer, meditation, exercise and long hot bath or shower… There is no right or wrong way to collect yourself unwind. None of these ways are restricted by time, resources or location; we all need to bathe, we all have a floor, chair or log to sit and contemplate, we can all get out and walk around the block alone and prayer can be done on the run, in a car or while doing a chore. There should be no excuses for not weekly, daily or at least monthly checking in with yourself and make sure you are good.

The next step is to act and answer your physical and mental needs; sometimes we just need to get away and not worry about anything. Take a trip with your girlfriend(s), go to a day spa, lunch and shopping, buy yourself a little goody (even if you have to plan and safe, you are worth it!) Going with someone can be very therapeutic. Make it a monthly, weekly or annual thing, depending on how detailed, long and expensive your plans are. Now you have something to look forward to. When life gets hectic, stressful and repetitive you know that you have an escape coming. If you can’t wait to find something small to recharge yourself or try step one again.

I hope you found this post helpful. I want you to go away with the notion that you are wonderful and all your hard work, even if it seems unappreciated does not go unnoticed. If you are feeling forgotten, take back yourself and unplug if only for a few hours, to remind yourself that you are fabulous and so worth it!

Please don’t forget to check out my two videos on my girl’s trip. It might inspire you to do something fun too. I hope it does!

How to be a Good Friend-Kindness Challenge

Today I wanted to talk about something important to me and that is Friendship and what makes a good friend. By luck, it ties into my 2017 Goals/Promises that I made to myself. If you want to hear me talk in detail about Friendship and Goals make sure you check out my YouTube Video. I hope this video inspires you to take my Kindness Challenge and incorporate some type of kindness goals into your daily routine and see if your life and outlook doesn’t change for the better. Let me know in the comments if you are going to try a little more kindness in your life. I would love to hear from you. Please give me a “Thumbs Up” if you like this video and don’t forget to subscribe. Keep reading here for my list of what I think makes a good friend and what my 2017 Goals are.

Here are my ideas on How to be a Good Friend; I’m reading a great book Stiletto Network by Pamela Reyckman and she talks about how women need to support and uplift other women in the workforce and in daily life. She also covers how it is our responsibility to help and support other women to succeed in their goals and dreams. This has always been a philosophy of mine and has been an important part of my work, in coaching, styling designing and being a friend. I want to see others succeed and if I can do something to help that then that is an accomplishment for me as well as the person striving for self-improvement. Here is the list of 5 qualities I find important in being a good friend.

  1. Never lose yourself in a friendship.
  2. A friendship should be reciprocal.
  3. A good friendship stands the test of time.
  4. Real friends don’t gossip about their friends.
  5. Be confident in who you are; celebrate other friends good fortune. Be kind!

I originally posted a video in January that caught my viewers up on what had been going on with me and then went through my goals/promises for 2017. I think it might have been a bit too much information and many people missed the goal part; which I thought was really motivating. In that video, I am going to go through my Goals/Promises for 2017 and I totally changed it up and decided to do something new and exciting. It is an experiment that my whole family is going to join in on. If it works I think it will be life-changing. We would love to have you join us.

What I have decided to do is cut the video in half and re-post the goal part with some updates on our progress. I am also going to add some of my thoughts and feelings about being a good friend, mentor and kind person. This leads directly to the goals our family is trying to implement this year and the promises that we are keeping for ourselves. Here are what we are trying to do this year 2017 Goals/Promises:

  1. Surround my life with kindness.
  2. Forgive my transgressors.
  3. Be Frustrated, not angry and then let it go.
  4. Walk away from negativity.
  5. Positive Mental Attitude.

I am going to leave a link to both of the videos so that you can check out the first have of the Catch-up video if you want to find out some of the things that are going on in my life right now. If not I would go straight to the second video and get a full picture of our goals and some of my ideas on friendship and kindness. It is my hope that this website and my YouTube channel is a place of kindness, growth and safe exchange of ideas. I don’t want anyone to feel that they cannot share a part of them self for fear of being shamed or ridiculed; including myself. Believe me there is nothing you can say that I have probably not heard straight to my face before, so if your goal is to hurt me the written word on a blog will come far from doing it; I’m a lot tougher than that and lived through a lot worse; don’t waste your time.

To see details, check out the link to both of my video: Catch-Up & 2017 Goals/Promises My newest video with the updated goals only and friendship addition is here: How to be a Good Friend-Kindness Challenge
