Stitch Fix From Start to Finish-all you need to know!

I tried an online subscription company that sends you fashion from head to toe pulled by your own stylist for only a $20 fee. Now you may be thinking, why in the world would you want someone else to pick out your clothes (you may be thinking that for me and/or yourself). I can’t speak for why you might not want to have someone pick out your fashions for you; I can tell you my control freak, fashion diva, bargain hunting self, had quite a moment of pause before I tried it out. If I am 100% honest in my first video: Stitch Fix Set Up, I was originally trying it as an experience and being the test dummy for all my viewers. So, let me walk you briefly through the process while I set up my account, answer all my Stitch Fix fashion question and find out what Stitch Fix is all about. When you sign up they have you fill out a questionnaire and try to get to know you through some of your social media pages, if you have them. They are also establishing your size and lifestyle/clothing needs. For more details check out my first video where I go into more details.

My first Stitch Fix box arrived, it only took a few days after ordering and if you watch my second video you can see what I received. My opinion of the quality, style, and service. I will take you through the purchasing process and prices of my first order, find out what I kept and I do a quick fashion show so you can see what all the clothing looks like on. I even styled it with some of my own stuff in the way the stylist suggested. Here is the link to that video: My First Stitch Fix-Unboxing & Lookbook I do prefer shopping on sale and Stitch Fix doesn’t give you that opportunity to do that except for crediting back your $20 stylist fee if you buy something from your current fix and if you buy it all (5 pieces) you get a 25% discount on the entire order. This is something but I prefer a bigger sale. They do have a referral program where they give you $25 if a friend you referred shops with them. I think that is your best bet on getting a bigger discount. Here is my referral link if anyone is currently interested in shopping and trying out Stitch Fix:Stitch Fix Refer A Friend

Favorite Designer Haul-How to Save Shopping on Sale

shoppin

Tart, bebe, Anthropologie and Hautelook are just a few of my favorite designers and places I love to shop for designer fashions. Join me while I go through my designer haul and also share with you a few of my tricks on how I save money while I’m shopping on sale. If you go to my YouTube Channel, Embellish Life on YouTube you can find the video: Favorite Designer Haul I will show you the items that I purchased discus how to save while shopping on sale and in the end of the video there is a quick fashion show of the items I bought styled with some of my own clothing for some fun everyday looks. I pride myself on the ability to dress in high end clothing and/or the appearance of designer fashion, without the cost. I attribute most of my motivation not to pay retail price on any of my clothing or accessories to my years working in the fashion and beauty industry in a variety of different capacities which has given me a unique perspective on style, quality and cost of not only high end fashion but also mid-range and affordable designers.

It is not always a given that you are going to save just because you are shopping at a sale, at an outlet store, or in a discount mart. Just because an item is less expensive or marked down doesn’t always mean it is a good deal or a good deal for you. Some quick things to keep in mind are the 3 Q’s, Quality, Quantity, and Question: If the quality is not good it really doesn’t matter how inexpensive it is if it going to fall apart after you wear or wash it a few times. If you have a lot of a particular item buying another one on sale or at a deep discount isn’t really saving you money; if you already have 10 in your closet. Always ask yourself the question, “Do I really need this, will I use it at least 12 times in a year, and do I have items already that work with it or will I have to spend money before I’m able to use it?”
Here are my 5 tips for saving while shopping on sale:

1. Make a list of what you are looking for and stick to your list to keep your budget in check. Enjoy the sale, browse the racks, get ideas for future purchases, take notes or photos, but if it is not on the list and you don’t need it… Don’t buy it!
2. Don’t forget to check your closet for Basics and add anything you might be missing to your list. Sales are a great place to pick up Classics and your Basics like the LBD (little black dress), white blouse, jeans, black or nude pump… These are the items we always need and are so easy to forget until after we get home and it is too late.
3. List the DON’T BUY items that you have too many of or you can’t resist. We all have them; it may be a favorite color (a closet full of black) or a print (too many polka dots) or even an item (50 T-shirts). Whatever your vice, it may be helpful to add it to your list as a reminder that you should NOT BUY another item like that, you have enough. It’s worth a try…
4. Sales are a great time to do shopping for gifts. Birthdays, special occasions and even Christmas, it is never too early if you have all the right information. List favorite colors, sizes, designers and wish items if you can. You may have the opportunity to find great gifts at affordable prices.
5. Don’t buy something just because it is on sale. This is where sales can be deadly; you see the amazing savings and you can’t help but see the dollars saved without realizing the dollars spent. If you don’t really need the item it doesn’t matter how much you saved on it; you spent money for something you were not intending to; which brings you back to Tip #1. The exception to this tip is if it is a classic/basic that you can always use. If you are lucky enough to stumble upon a classic or basic piece that is a great deal, that may not be on your list or exactly what you need but you know you will be able to use it at some point; then it is worth stopping and considering how much use will you get out of it. Ask yourself, is it something you can keep for years, is it extremely well made and is the fabric something that will last (if the item is still expensive, if it is under $20 don’t worry about it).

I hope these tips are helpful to you the next time you get ready to go to a big sale; either online or in a store. Don’t forget the 3 Q’s while you’re shopping whether on sale or full price. I know sales are fun and the savings can be intoxicating. Before you get caught up in the moment and let the “Red Tags” run away with you, I hope you think of these quick and easy tips and if you don’t physically write done a list at least mentally remember what it was you had set out to get and try to keep yourself to that goal. You might be surprised how good it feels to double save money, not only on the items you bought on sale but on the items you didn’t buy because you stayed on task.

Haute Look Haul-Shopping Spree

scrn1
Check out all the stuff I got at Haute Look! I’ve been shopping at Haute Look even before they where purchased by Nordstrom. I have been happy with all the additional customer service that has been added since their purchase. One thing that I really love is that you can now return ordered merchandise at Nordstrom Rack and that makes my life so much easier. They have also increased their referral incentive, you now get $20 each time a friend shops. Which is nice little perk to use on your next purchase. One of the changes that I don’t like is that certain items can take up to 3 and sometimes even 4 weeks, to get to you. You have to be careful to check what the shipping time/availability is. This can be really annoying and the only reason that it is not completely discouraging is that the savings are usually so good that it is worth the wait. I do recommend you keep this in mind because it would make a difference if you were buying something for a particular purpose and arrival time would make a difference. Visit my YouTube video so you can see all my purchase for the last few shopping trips to Haute Look. Just join me at Haute Look Haul and check out everything that I got.

If you want to shop at Haute Look too just follow my link and take advantage of all their savings. You can also shop online at Nordstrom Rack from the same link. I haven’t shopped at the Rack Online but I’m sure it is also filled with great deals.

Fashion in My Life

scrn4

If you want to know more about my fashion experience check out my YouTube site. I have just finished a new video about why I’m making videos and where I have learned all I know about fashion and style. You can see the video, Embellish Life-All About Style and find out all you ever wanted to know about me and my fashion experience. A few jobs I didn’t mention in my video, totally forgot and I didn’t want it to go on forever… I didn’t mention working as a Manager and Buyer at a designer leather boutique in La Jolla, CA called Extravaganza and I was a stylist, fashion merchandiser at JigSaw a contemporary clothing boutique also in La Jolla, CA. I actually worked at JigSaw twice once just before I moved to Beverly Hills, CA and after I came home due to my car accident. Tip: Try never to burn bridges… You never know when you might need something from someone again. Even if it is not a job, I believe that life is spiral; hopefully in a upward movement, and always spinning and circling back around. Keep as many doors open and windows cracked, you never know when you might want to go back through to get to the other side. 🙂

The Comfy Pants

This is dedicated to my Sister-in-Law, Christina, without her I would have never found my comfy pants .

While staring blankly into my closet early this morning contemplating global hunger I took a brief moment to decide what to wear.   Isn’t that what we all do in the morning while getting ready for the day… consider the solution for worldwide crisis? 😉  Once I figured that out, I grabbed my old faithful standby; my “comfy” pants.  We all have them; that pair of pants that no matter how fat, gross, or ugly you feel that day, once you slide them on, all you feel is cozy and warm and they always fit!  They also go by the name of “fat pants”; but really, that doesn’t do them the proper amount of homage.  They are so much more than just a “fat pants”, they are a reliable old friend.  They come in many shapes and forms: jeans, cotton, elastic waist, worn, with holes and without, perfectly new and 10 years old.   I love my “comfy” pants; maybe a bit too much.  I have often found myself wearing them multiple times a week.  This weighed heavy on me, because really, how many times can you wear the same pants in one week before it gets a little weird and definitely gross.  😉  I thought I had the answer to my dilemma by trying different versions of my “comfy pants”.  It is amazing how a simple velour pants can take on so many forms.  Every time I tried a different kind I never had the same warm and comfy feeling and back I went to my old faithful pants.

As with many odd habits, you occasionally look back trying to figure out, “how it all started”; I remember the introduction to my “comfy pants”.  It was a few years back and I complemented my sister-in-law on her cute velour jogging pants.  She told me she loved them and needed to get more pairs, or maybe she already had more pairs, this point is irrelevant because multiple pairs where inevitable at this point.  From then on I began to notice her cute Juicy pants, a lot!  I joked with her about her repeat choice.  I knew she had a vast selection of items but she seemed to like her Juicy pants.  She said she attempted to pick other items but that pant always won out.  At this point I was intrigued, what is it about this pant that outweighed the need for diversity, fashion, and the moray of wearing the same thing too many times in a row… I had to try them; soon, like now.  The next day I was at the store trying them, and she was right, so comfy and still looked good.  The velour was just thick enough that it magically smoothed everything out.  I started with a nice basic black with the wide waistband, and I was hooked.  From there I got a brown pair, grey, turquoise, red, and recently pink.  I have ventured off to other brands but always to return to my original love, Juicy.

I have sadly found myself making these pants look dressy in ways I know I shouldn’t.  I have worn them with cute wedges and sparkly tops and didn’t care they were my “comfy pants”.  On rainy days or warm beach days I can find a way to wear my “comfy pants”.  I think everyone should find their own “comfy pant” no matter what the style and embrace them.  That being said, the fashionista in me cannot fully condone wearing the same pants everyday but I can get behind finding a fit or style that works for your body and get multiple colors.  Mix it up with different tops, shoes, and accessories.  I have learned to embrace my need to wear my Juicy velour pants and mix it up with different styles and colors of that cut. Honestly though, nothing is the same as my first black pair with the wide waistband; because yes, I still have them and wear them even after 5 years.  Let’s be honest ladies, we all have at least one favorite staple item, that “comfy pants”, that you know will never let you down 🙂

Do you have a favorite item, that “comfy pants”?  Let me know what your favorite item is and why.  Who knows, we may all find new items to embellish our “comfy pants” selections 🙂
