My name is Heidi Grady and I am the creator of Embellish Life. The Embellish Life concept was born over 15 years ago when I founded a non-profit called HIPP, Home Income Producing Parents. It was our goal to support and coach parents that wanted to stay home but needed a second income. In 2004 I went back to my fashion roots and started Embellish by Design; where I worked in the non-profit world raising money for organizations through traveling fashion boutiques. My ultimate goal was to incorporate my love for helping others, passion for inspiring women, and limitless creativity. It is due to my desire to meld all of my talents that Embellish Life was born.
You may ask; who is Heidi Grady, really?… I am a wife to my high school sweetheart, married for 22 years and together for over 30 years. I am a mother of two wonderful sons, my oldest son will be 21 years old this year, I can’t believe it!! I am an avid crafter and love to create home décor and decorate my home over and over again. I also lend my décor talents to my friends and family. I have been a fashion stylist and make-up artist for over 25 years. I am convinced that shopping can be a form of therapy. I have my BS in psychology from UCSD and am currently being certified as a Life Coach. I have over 15 years of experience as a business and life coach and have been an entrepreneur for over 20 years. I recently experienced life changing medical issues that left me ill for over 6 years. After gaining 60 pounds and having three stomach surgeries I have finally come to terms with my lifetime medical issues and am fighting back to become healthy and better than I was before. I have dedicated my life to giving back and am always involved in some kind of charity event. I plan parties in my sleep and love throwing a party for a good cause as well as for a few close friends. Most of my charity work focuses around helping and empowering women and children in need. I sit on two Boards, one Women’s League that supports women and children in crisis and on my Delta Gamma Alumnae Board as the Chapter President. I use my leadership, event planning and coaching skills to guide me in these positions. Likewise, I have tailored Embellish Life around uplifting and empowering women to realize and achieve their very best.
I truly believe that, everything in life is better when you Embellish!
It can be difficult to spontaneously write about a topic with profound insight and deep meaning. Also, I want to express myself with some kind of flare to capture an audience, inform, and entertain all at the same time. So at this moment I am stepping back and evaluating, “what the hell am I doing???”
I know my main goal is to inform and pass on information that it significant to woman in a manner that is entertaining, accessible, and helpful; all wrapped up in a bow of light-hearted humor. Really, what can be more hysterical that crow’s feet, thickening middles, teenage puberty (your kids, not yours), recreating yourself at 40, looking terrific after working all day, throwing parties for your kids, chairing a fundraiser in just 2 weeks, and some of us working 40 hours a week on top of it all. We do all these things while contemplating the meaning of the second half of our life! We are all over taxed, over worked, picked on, picked at and when we are sure there is no more left to scrape from our bones someone finds something else we just “have to do”. I agree it can be overwhelming and scary, but seriously, if you break it all down and share your fears with your friends it really can be a source of comfort and seriously funny.
My goal for Embellish Life is to have a place that women can share, no matter where they are in life. I want Embellish Life to be the place that experienced women are kind and helpful to the young, sharing their knowledge and helping other women along the way. I hope young women feel safe to ask questions and also share a fresh insight, because we are never too “perfect” not to learn from others. I really hope that Embellish Life can be a place of sharing, learning and growing… Please join me on my mission to Embellish Life!
